Posted 28th Apr 2021 1103 The Call of Duty rumours keep on coming, and just days after we claimed Call of Duty WWII Vanguard might not release in 2021, it looks Activision has already found a suitable replacement. Like clockwork, we've come to expect a new CoD game every year, as Activision rotates through Infinity Ward, Treyarch, and Sledgehammer Games. The last time we didn't have a new game was all the way back in 2004, but keen to fill that Cod-shaped hole in our lives, new reports claim a Modern Warfare 2 remaster is on the way. In March last year, Activision gave hope to the beloved franchise entry with the surprise drop of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Since then, the idea of a fully remastered version of the 2009 classic has refused to go away. With worrying claims Vanguard is a "f*****g disaster", it sounds like Sledgehammer needs to take the upcoming game back to the shop for a tune-up. Thankfully, Modern Warfare 2 Remastered could be here to save the day. Related Rogue Call Of Duty Player Makes Themselves Activision's Warzone Anti-Cheat What's the Modern Warfare 2 Remastered news? 🚨COD 2021 POSSIBLY CANCELLED🚨I tweeted about this yesterday, but took it down, as I didn’t have 100% proof, now I might be back to being a “Support Studio”.It also says “MW2 MPR will release this fall” with “MW/WZ/CW content continuing throughout 2022”!❤️+🔄! Zesty - News & Leaks ZestyCODLeaks April 27, 2021 The latest leaks come courtesy of ZestyCODLeaks, who is adamant Sledgehammer will be demoted back to its role as a support studio. The big news here is that we're still on track for a 2021 release, however, it won't be the widely publicised Vanguard. Instead, Activision is tipped to release Modern Warfare 2 Remastered and neatly slot into the publisher's roadmap. Adding to this, ZestyCODLeaks says Modern Warfare 2 Remastered will sit alongside 2019's Modern Warfare, 2020's Black Ops Cold War, and Warzone - providing content "throughout 2022". Elsewhere, leaker MW2 OG claims they've heard about the troubles at Vanguard HQ. As well as there being no concrete release date for the WWII title, there are continued concerns it won't make a 2021 release date. With this in mind, MW2 OG has heard whispers of a Modern Warfare "revamp" that will include content that was cut from the 2019 game and parts of MW2. Players already know Activision hasn't completely abandoned MW2. When the remastered campaign released, buying the game also gave you access to the "Classic Ghost Bundle" for Modern Warfare and Warzone. Is Modern Warfare 2 Remastered coming in 2021? There are talks of some kind of "revamp" for MW19, or a flow of more content for it. There's so much unreleased & potentially saved for MWII. And, of course, CW at the front and center. Lastly "there's nothing about [vanguard] that would make it a good release this year".— MW2 OG TheMW2Ghost April 24, 2021 Just like any CoD leak, we need to take all of the above with a mountain of salt. Activision is known for changing things around at the last minute. Then again, ZestyCoDLeaks is sure this is what's going on. They also stuck their neck out on the line and said they already had this information but held off on posting until they were 100% sure. Considering Activision has been clamping down on leaks in the wake of Cold War, it's a bold move to make from the trusted leaker. A final wink in the right direction is the fact Activision apparently slapped a DCMA takedown on the leak when it was discussed on Discord. There were criticisms that the remastered MW2 campaign didn't include a multiplayer element. Remembering multiplayer is many people's CoD bread and butter, there were hopes devs were holding out on multiplayer for a fully remasted Modern Warfare 2 further down the line. Releasing the campaign could've been a way to test the waters to see if there was still potential in shipping a remaster. Industry insider Tom Henderson the one who branded Vanguard a f*****g disaster has previously suggested Sledgehammer's troubled title will still release in 2021 thanks to a “recovery map”. For the time being, we're lost in our own warzone of 4chan leaks, rumours, and speculation. Whether Activision is about to deliver a fatal blow to Vanguard and give Modern Warfare 2 Remastered a chance to shine remains to be seen. Until all this blows over, we're off to hide in our Cold War bunker. Players were given the opportunity to test out the brand-new Champion Hill game mode in Call of Duty Vanguard’s beta, so we anticipate Modern Warfare 2 to follow suit. A brand-new game mode named DMZ, rumoured to be inspired by Escape from Tarkov, is planned for Modern Warfare 2. One of the maps that will be included in the beta was unveiled by the official Call of Duty page in a tweet that parodied some F1 drama. The map is titled Grand Prix and is centred around the Marina Bay circuit in Singapore, an actual track albeit the cars displayed aren’t nearly current F1 models. In the trailer, there is an abandoned pitlane, a Ferris wheel in the distance, and a safety car that is parked but not exactly doing its job in the face of the numerous fires in the area. Can you play it using an integrated GPU? How does Nvidia's still popular 10th generation perform? Let's find out! Image credit Tom's HardwareLike most current games, Call of Duty Modern Warfare includes a versatile Render Resolution scaler that allows the resolution of 3D elements to be lowered and then resampled back into the window's native resolution without affecting the the resolution scaler only goes down to 66% of 1080 which is a tad higher than what other modern games allow and an obstacle for older or cheaper GPUs. But as we are about to see, this game is not very friendly to the entry-level in several GPUsAMD Vega integrated GPUs, such as the Vega 8 or Vega 11 are usually great cheap options for 720p or light 1080p the current version of Modern Warfare might have some issue with these options. The game initially seems to start fine, but trying to enter any actual game scene crashes the game with a DirectX error.Image credit Tom's HardwareI tested with the Ryzen 3200G + Vega 8 and Ryzen 3400G + Vega 11 using driver and but the problem HD graphics sadly did not fare much better. I tried the game using a Dell XPS 13 with Core i7-8550U CPU and Intel UHD 620 graphics which I have used for plenty of games. The game did not start, throwing an incompatibility error message when trying to open.Image credit Tom's Hardware Call of Duty Modern Warfare on GTX 1050 Ti Since the game seems to require a dedicated GPU I decided to begin with the GTX 1050 2GB, one of Nvidia's entry-level gaming GPUs for the 10th generation. The humble 1050 is usually one of the cheapest options to help you get gaming on older games, or newer games at lower settings and Modern Warfare is not an exception. Image credit Tom's HardwareI paired this with a Ryzen 5 3400G and 16 GB of DDR4 ram and with the lowest settings allowed by the game, and resolution set to 1080 but the scaler to 70% so a render resolution of 1344x756 and the game maintained a 60 fps cap even at the most-challenging moments. .For testing, I used the Ground War multiplayer mode since it tends to have the bigger maps, the higher player counts and plenty of vehicles running down constant lowest settings, the game is not exactly pretty on the eyes and the lack of antialiasing and decent lightning is obvious but a lot of people playing competitive games like this one are more interested in function than form. . If that is the case for you as well the GTX 1050 will not disappoint.Image credit Tom's HardwareThe game does like its memory, utilizing almost all the 2 GB of VRAM and over 10 GB of RAM at the lowest settings. Let's see how an upgrade will do. Call of Duty Modern Warfare on GTX 1060 We jump now to a more powerful GTX 1060 with 6GB. While it is starting to show its age, using a 1060 with 6 GB of VRAM is still a pretty inexpensive way to get decent settings in modern games at Warfare is another example of that. From nothing to everything, the game is now able to max out the settings except for Ray Tracing at 1080 and still keep 60 fps at a minimum and often more.Image credit Tom's HardwareOf course, the difference visually is quite impactful, particularly regarding overall lightning, anti-aliasing and full 1080p resolution. Some might prefer to focus on competitive responsiveness over visual settings, and for them, two interesting options first is to prioritize framerate. By lowering all the settings but still leaving textures at medium and bullet decals enabled, we can squeeze the most performance while still leaving some visual flair. This leads to something closer to 80 fps on average which will work great in a 90Hz or more monitor with any sort adaptive v-sync.Image credit Tom's Hardware Another option is to use a higher resolution. I bumped the game to 1440p at the same settings and was happy to see that the GPU was used to its max while keeping a nice 60 fps or more even at the worst moments. Image credit Tom's HardwareGiven the nature of the game, I would lean towards higher framerates but that is dependant on your monitor having a high refresh rate and variable refresh rate, so you can focus on settings or resolution if that is not available. Call of Duty Modern Warfare on GTX 1080Given the previous results, it is not a surprise that a GTX 1080 card can max out the game at 1080p resolution and still provide somewhere between 80 and 90 fps at its most intense moments thus making it a great choice for both graphics and framerates. Image credit Tom's HardwareLet's explore options from here. Since the computational power is there, we can raise the resolution to 1440p at the same settings and expect 60-70 fps in most scenarios. If you are looking for a balance between framerate and resolution, this might be your best bet. Image credit Tom's HardwareWhen I attempted to play at full 4K, the GTX 1080 wasn't as good, sticking to a still respectable average of 45 fps at maximum settings. Image credit Tom's HardwareIf we drop down to the lowest settings, except for medium shadows, high textures, bullet decals enabled, and SMAA anti-aliasing, then we can keep around 55-60 fps. The game still looks decent enough, and as I have mentioned in the past, many people prefer higher framerates over better details. Image credit Tom's HardwareBottom LineCall of Duty Modern Warfare plays well on budget graphics cards and excels on mid-range models. You can get a smooth 60 fps on even a GTX 1050 at low resolution and settings, and the image quality improves dramatically as you move up to a GTX 1060. A GTX 1080 can even play at 4K with some compromises. However, this game does not work with integrated graphics at all so you can only play on PCs with discrete GPUs.
